In the earlier part of the Summer, the Council invited members of the community to nominate either their own or their neighbours’ gardens & flower displays for an award in the Council’s Best Kept Garden & Containers competition 2024. The Council recognises the fine contribution given by those who make the extra effort to develop their gardens, which not only gives them pleasure but also other members of the community who can view their displays. Mayor Linda Radcliffe & Councillors Stephen Ashworth, Scott Merrin & Christine Slater carried out the judging in August & the following were the winning entries:
- Best Kept Large Garden 2024 Lilian McKay, Flimby Brow
- Best Kept Medium Garden 2024 Gerald Alderson, Meadow Way, Maryport
- Best Kept Small Garden 2024 Joint Winners Lewis Lawrie, Wedgewood Road, Flimby, & Alber Penman, Rydal Avenue, Maryport
- Best Kept Containers 2024 Gerald Alderson, Meadow Way, Maryport
