In early Summer, the Council invited members of the community to nominate either their own or their neighbours’ gardens & flower displays for an award in the Council’s Best Kept Garden & Containers Competition 2026. The Council likes to give recognition the magnificent contribution given by those who put together a great garden display, brightening the community for all. Councillors Stephen Ashworth, Billy Pegram & Linda Radcliffe carried out the judging in early August & the following were the winning entries:
- Best Kept Large Garden 2026 Lilian McKay, Flimby Brow
- Best Kept Medium Garden 2026 Peter Myers, Solway Avenue, Flimby
- Best Kept Small Garden 2026 David Gravell, Church Road, Flimby
- Best Kept Containers 2026 Joint Winners Linda Cuthbertson, The Beeches, Maryport & Stephen Foster, Derwent Avenue, Maryport
The winners were presented with their prizes & a trophy by the Mayor, John Newton, on 16 September. Pictures are available on the Council’s social media sites. Congratulations to the winners & thank you to all those green fingered residents who took part.
