Whilst the anniversary of VE Day is generally known, less publicity tends to be given to VJ Day. The 80th anniversary of VJ Day will take place on 15 August this year. In commemoration of the brave soldiers who served their country, the Town Council has installed commemorative benches both in Maryport Memorial Gardens & Flimby Cemetery. A short remembrance ceremony will be held at 12.00pm on 15 August in the Maryport Memorial Gardens; all welcome.
