In the earlier part of the Summer, the Council invited members of the community to nominate either their own or their neighbours’ gardens & flower displays for an award in the Council’s Best Kept Garden & Containers competition 2023. The Council likes to give recognition to those who make that extra effort to develop their gardens, which not only gives them pleasure but also other members of the community who can view their displays. Mayor Linda Radcliffe & Councillors Stephen Ashworth, Billy Pegram & Christine Slater carried out the judging in August & the following were the winning entries:
- Best Kept Large Garden 2023 Lilian McKay, Flimby Brow
- Best Kept Medium Garden 2023 Beth Tinkler, Meadow Way, Maryport
- Best Kept Small Garden 2023 Nigel & Donna Campbell, Ewanrigg Road, Maryport
- Best Kept Containers 2023 Sally Watson, Station Court, Maryport
