In the earlier part of the Summer, the Council invited members of the community to nominate either their own or their neighbours’ gardens & flower displays for an award in the Council’s Best Kept Garden & Containers competition 2022. The Council likes to give recognition to those who make that extra effort to develop their gardens, which not only gives them pleasure but also other members of the community who can view their displays. Mayor Peter Kendall & Councillors Stephen Ashworh, Billy Pegram & Christine Slater carried out the judging in early August & the following were the winning entries:
- Best Kept Large Garden: Lilian McKay, Braemar, Flimby Brow, Flimby
- Best Kept Medium Garden: Irene Hunter, St Helen’s Avenue, Flimby
- Best Kept Small Garden: Nigel & Donna Campbell, Ewanrigg Road, Maryport
- Best Kept Containers: Sally Watson, Station Court, Maryport
