In view of the restrictions on public gatherings, the Council is looking to organise some alternative arrangements to support the Christmas Lights Switch-on 2020.
It is proposed to hold a virtual switch-on ceremony, with live streaming & pictures, supported by an on-line switch-on event, including activities, performances & storytelling, with a virtual message from Santa. In addition to the entertainment, the Council is looking to involve children by designing a Christmas card for the Mayor, & by writing a poem for inclusion in the Mayor’s Christmas card. Because Santa won’t be available to hand out presents from his Grotto this year, the Council is arranging for a bag of presents for each Flimby & Maryport Nursery, Play Group & Primary School Pupil, which will be delivered to those venues with assistance from Santa. For adults, the Council has invited submission of pictures of the area, from which twelve will be selected for inclusion on a 2021 Calendar.
