The Council has commissioned a heritage plaque in recognition of Maryport resident & Victoria Cross winner Ned Smith. Edward Benn (Ned) Smith, VC, DCM, was born in Maryport on 10 November 1898 & won the Victoria Cross during the ‘Hundred Days Offensive’ of World War 1.
The plaque will be displayed at his former residence at 1 North Quay & an official unveiling ceremony, conducted by Sue Hayman MP, will be held on 26 October at 10am.
