The Town Council recognises the contribution that young people bring to the community, particularly through its links with the Maryport Schools’ Partnership, & has introduced an annual award scheme to reward those who have made a special contribution during the year.
Awards for their efforts in 2018 went to Arron Walling & Dylan Evans of Our Lady & St Patrick’s Primary School, Tilly O’Neill of Maryport Infant School & Grace Hill of Dearham. Arron is part of the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder support group & has helped with fund raising for the group. Dylan is part of Calol Ringcraft, a dog training organisation & applies his natural talent in this field to train dogs for people. Dylan also came fourth at Crufts in 2018 in the Skye Terrier Open class. Tilly is a resourceful young lady with many community improvement ideas; she carried litter cleaning on the shore during the summer. Grace, similarly, has contributed many ideas towards helping in the community with fund raising, Christmas boxes & Hampers for the less fortunate among many other ways of helping out she has taken part in.
