Following the introduction of a static carnival event in 2016, after a period in which no carnival had taken place, a procession based carnival was held in Maryport on Saturday 8 July.
Organised by the Community Carnival Committee, consisting of Maryport Councillors Gary Hampson, Billy Pegram, Linda Radcliffe & Lee Williamson, the procession, led by local MP Sue Hayman, followed a new route from Fleming Square to The Wave, including High Street, Wood Street, Curzon Street & Senhouse Street. The carnival proved to be very popular, attracting lots of entries, & was well supported by the local population, who turned out in their thousands to watch the entertainment on a beautiful sunny day. People are already planning for next year’s event!
