During August, judging for the Town Council’s annual Best Kept Garden and Container Competition took place. There were around forty entries in this year’s event and judges Linda Radcliffe, Stephen Ashworth and Peter Kendall had some tough decisions to make with so many beautiful gardens to consider.
There were many impressive new entries, together with entries from returning contestants, and the Council commends all of those who help to brighten up the area as well as other people’s outlook on life.
Large Garden

Medium Garden
Winner: Alfred Rumney, St Helens Avenue, Flimby

Runner-up: Jean Hesketh, School Drive, Flimby, & Mr & Mrs Cooke, Flimby Brow, Flimby
Container Display
Winner: Mr & Mrs Rushworth, Ryehill Road, Flimby
Runners-up: Mr & Mrs Rosser, Meadow Way
The Council also held its second ‘Best Kept Allotment’ competition in 2016. The winning entries were as follows:

Best Church Street Plot: Mr Goodwin, John Street, Maryport
Best Flimby Plot: Mr Bland, Ryehill Road, Flimby
Best Sandy Lonning Plot: Mr Graham, Gilmour Street, Maryport
