The Town Council held its annual Best Kept Garden & Container Competition in August, together with a new competition for the Best Allotment Plot.
Despite this summer not being one of the best weather wise, there were some fabulous entries and the judges had some difficulty in picking out those that were just a little better than the others.
The winners, who were presented with their awards by the Mayor Linda Radcliffe on 2 September, were:
Large Garden
Winner: Harry Bennett, Ewanrigg Road, Maryport
Runner-up: Gillian Montgomery, Station Road, Flimby
Medium Garden
Winner: Alfred Rumney, St Helens Avenue, Flimby
Runner-up: Peter Myers, Solway Avenue, Flimby
Small Garden
Winner: Helen Stevenson, Queen Street, Maryport
Runner-up: Thomas Ashe, Ewanrigg Road, Maryport
Container Display
Winner: James & Mary Tinkler, Meadow Way, Maryport
Runner-up: Gillian Montgomery, Station Road, Flimby
Best Allotment Plot Overall: Mrs Livingstone & Miss Patterson, Gavel Street, Maryport, (Sandy Lonning Allotment site)
Best Church Street Plot: Mr Lindsay, Eaglesfield Street, Maryport
Best Flimby Plot: Mr O’Connor, School Drive, Flimby
Best Sandy Lonning Plot: Mr Penman, Elizabeth Street, Maryport
