Preparation for Future Flooding

To provide on-site storage facilities for equipment to assist in the event of future flood events, the Flimby Flood Group, in association with the Town Council, has obtained a large storage container which Flimby Social Club has kindly permitted to be sited on its land on Chapel Street. The container will be used to store flood sacks & other equipment which may be needed at short notice by residents in the event of potentially impacting flood warnings being issued by the appropriate flood authorities.

Land Slippage at Sea Brows

The Town Council is pursuing the responsible authorities for the Sea Brows area of Maryport, including the 'fairy footpath', which was damaged during December 2015 during Storm Desmond. It is understood that whilst the repair work presents many difficulties due to the engineering complexities involved, grant funding has been obtained & that works should commence in the Spring to bring the area back to a usable standard.

Dementia Friendly Town

Following consideration of a report indicating that recent national studies had show that one in fourteen people did, or would suffer, from dementia at some point in their lifetime, the Council agreed to introduce a ‘Dementia Friendly’ scheme in Maryport to support those suffering from Alzheimer’s Diseases or another form of dementia. Council members agreed to undertake training from Councillor Linda Radcliffe to enable them to become registered Dementia Friends, which would in turn enable them to approach businesses & shopkeepers to ask them to become Dementia Friendly businesses.

Poppy Boat

Two Maryport businesses built & donated to the Town Council a new Poppy Boat to replace the previous boat located on the Glasson Industrial Estate Roundabout, which was stolen in November 2016. Syd Wood of Maryport Car Centre, & Richard Stamper of R Stamper Services, decided to construct a replacement when the stolen boat could not be found. The boat will be used to display poppies in support of Maryport veterans during November, & for the display of flowers during the summer months.

Bus Shelters

The Council is making arrangements for the provision of new bus shelters at main road, Ellenborough, opposite Elizabeth Terrace, & at Ewanrigg Road, opposite Mitchell's shop, following requests received from residents. The former was installed in January & the latter awaiting installation in early 2018.
