Maryport Schools’ pupils are given an opportunity each year to meet the Mayor of Maryport. During the autumn term, Schools’ Councillors from Grasslot Infants, Flimby Primary and Maryport C of E Junior Schools held meetings with Mayor Linda Radcliffe.
The meetings are an opportunity for the young people to discuss what the Town Council does, what they would like to see in the town for children and discuss issues of the day. These meetings are seen by schools as a means of improving pupils’ understanding and outlook on the community. Following work undertaken by schools on World War 1, Linda focussed attention on that topic and was impressed by the children’s knowledge in that area.
