Freedom of the Town of Maryport

On Wednesday 20 May 2015, some 130 soldiers from the 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment will parade in Maryport, where the Regiment will be awarded the Freedom of the Town.

The Regiment recruits from across the North West of England, including Maryport, & is the area’s ‘local’ Regiment. Soldiers from Maryport will take part in the event, which commences at 11am, includes a Church service at St Mary’s Church, & concludes with an official ceremony at Maryport ARLFC. The route covers Mealpot Road, A594, Wood Street, High Street, Senhouse Street, Curzon Street, Station Street & concludes on Mealpot Road.

The Regiment will perform an official salute on Curzon Street, where the guards will receive an official inspection from the Mayor Carol Tindall & the Colonel of the Regiment. Roads in Maryport will be closed for the duration of the event & traffic controlled by Cumbria Police.

Maryport School pupils will line the route, & the event will be supported by local organisations, including cadets & veterans groups, with colours on display, in what should be a great spectacle & honour for the Town.
